Nobody is super-focused right now. It's one thing to sample the old records you love, but to make your shit sound like those old records is a whole other thing. That's what Nobody is slanging these days, getting head deep into 70s psyche, folk, and indy sounds. Beachwood Sparks singer/guitarist Chris Gunst and guest musicians help to craft this delicate sound, resulting in one of the dreamiest recordings I've heard since Loveless. Checkout the awesome triplet of songs that opens up the album: "The Seed, Decisions," and "Broaden A New Sound." On these tracks, Nobody's downtempo touch is most apparent, the drums play a prominent role. But as the album develops, the drums fade to back, and the sound transforms into that psyche stuff. Check "Walk In After The Light, Memory," and "Floating." That's marshmallow slippers right there. I like how he even includes the requisite, tripped out reverse track "Klaw Print." Great execution, and a true listening album. - Turntable Lab |
