MH-254 Boy In Static - Violet  Violet is Boy In Static’s follow up to the 2005 Alien Transistor release, Newborn. While Newborn was a collection of songs meant to conjure images of a half-waking dream, the music on Violet invokes a feeling of the morning after. Violet is developed using a broad palette, with more than fifteen instruments being played directly by the artist. Boy In Static is in perfect stride with his bedroom-electro-ballad aesthetic, building on his fuzzy brand of hushed dream-pop with a timely maturity. Striking a balance between organic song structure and intricate computer-based processing, Boy In Static’s lush vocals and mature songwriting distinguish Violet from a sea of other indie-electronic releases. |

| Boy In Static’s mighty impressive new album Violet is set for soon. Elegant blends of mellow electronica, follow soothing vocals and wonderfully crafted fuzz for Boy In Static to produce an excellent follow up to their last album Newborn. The highly-textured new release, comparable to the likes of the Album Leaf, The Postal Service, Junior Boys and Sigur Ros, is surely one to watch this year. Favorites of the album are Catching Death, Where It Ends and First Love, for their sheer textural warmth and lyrical empathy. Catching Death was the song that made me love the new release, it combines soft accordion synth with the ghostly lyrics “Catching Death Tonight… Summer Crawls Inside“. Where it Ends combines Idioteque-esque drums with pure fuzz guitaring and the empathetic lyrics “I’ll stay awhile to watch it end and break your heart to know again. Here’s where it starts, same place, same breaking hearts”, a great single for the new album release which is expected on the 29th May on Mush Records. - I Spin And Spin |
