With an ironic nod toward Public Enemy's finest hour, the City of Angel's Busdriver Steers us through his second full-length release. Much like his hometown metropolis, it's a sprawling, convoluted affair, built upon many different layers, musically and lyrically. A member of the diverse Project Blowed outfit, Busdriver is an amazing emcee, without a doubt. He can hold his own when it comes to freestyles, can deliver sing-song style rhymes in between jazz styled scats, and mess with your head in a welter of helter-skelter verbiage, switching between styles as freely as some change records, dissecting the ups and downs of touring, fans, commercial success, and hip-hop culture. It comes together like a weird map that's been torn apart and then put back together again in a different order, soundtracked by off-kilter beats and TV shows from other worlds. Hummorous, not a little strange, and utterly enthralling - it's little wonder the West Coast is hotly tipped with this kind of material being released. - DMC Update |
