This week sees the release of the Deru mini EP titled Mini-Mini-Me on Mush Records, which features the song “Splif (Feat. Casual)” which you can stream above. Its a SoCal affair, with the hip-hop inclined Deru sampling out electronic music from Los Angeles and Casual of Hieroglyphics coming out of Oakland with alt / hip hop vibes. OK, not entirely SoCal with Oakland but we're close. And the music sounds fresh! Deru does double time as a sound designer and film-scorer, and you can hear how he brings that to “Spliff,” so his music becomes a film narrative backdrop for Casual to do his thing. Only 200 copies of the 7" are available on this one, so you might not want to follow Casual's lead on this and move fast instead. - Spacelab TV |
