MH-005 Nickodemus And Jay B. - A New Day  Nickodemus and Jay B. assemble a talented cast of musicians for their Mush collaboration Nickodemus and Jay B. present A New Day. The release begins with the full vocal track "Feed Your Soul" featuring London's nu-soul vocalist Petra Phillipson. "Spoon Song," which features Si*Se vocalist Carol C. follows with ethnic vocal chants over a playful rhythm and "Don't Panic" delivers a synth heavy experimental workout. "Samsara" is a complex uptempo hip-hop track with two distinct movements of drum breaks, keyboards, guitars, funk bass, vocals and horn samples. Nickodemus and Jay B. present A New Day blends the talents of the six musicians involved to create a release diverse in influences and completely New York. |

| Oh my goddess, I think I found my new favorite song of the year, maybe even top 10 of all time. "A New Day" is a four track EP, all songs very good, but it's the B-side track "Samsara" that has possessed me. It's nearly fifteen minutes long, with about four change-ups in beat/rhythms. It starts off with a Hindu saffron curry sort of stoner composition, then takes a left turn into some more uptempo, funky stuff, and then u-turns back into a pure acid jazz delight. I can't get enough. How it starts and ends is just amazing. I wish I had more records like this. - Bastard Jazz |
