The first single off Zoon van snooK's debut album, "Cuckoo" is a tour through a satisfying sprawl of micro genres and macro sounds. The original is a bouncing arpeggiator-driven party track that sets a high mark for the remixes to shoot for. UK electronic star James Yuill gets first crack. Having made his name with a series of daring remixes and his debut for Moshi Moshi, the London based producer gets bubbly and playful here, adding beds of ethereal vocals and suggestions of video game tumbling. Next up is Christ., an artist who has been compared to Aphex Twin and Boards of Canada alike. He takes "Cuckoo" to a dingy techno, four-on-the-floor neighborhood, rings doorbells and runs away. Lastly, fellow Bristolian, Minotaur Shock takes the reigns and... well, you just have to hear it to believe the free-form glitch party that will cross your eyes and curl your hair. Zoon van snooK could not have asked for more fascinating life to be breathed into his track.
