Zoon van snooK’s (Remixes From) The Nutty Tree follows his acclaimed debut with a collection of re-imaginings that often stray dramatically from the songs’ original versions. Each song from (Falling From) The Nutty Tree is remixed by a single artist. Zoon van snooK is an instrumental artist, yet Tunng and Ape School add vocals, transforming the originals into shining new compositions. Fujiya & Miyagi, Corduroi, and Alka’s take European approaches, employing heavy synth and referencing Krautrock and Giorgio Moroder. Grasscut chops unrecognizable vocals over the original's minimal guitars to create what sounds like it could be a long lost track from The Books. Woos, Lost Idol, and Yppah maintain the subtly qualities of the originals while adding their own touches of rock and electronics. Kirkland, of Super Furry Animals, presents melodic swells over broken beats and Daedelus - to whom Zoon van snooK’s more dance-oriented tracks have been compared - provides his own dissonant take. Put together, the remixes on this release are a compliment the original album, taking its sonic collages even further into the realm of oddtronica.
