Thavius Beck's Amber Embers Volume 2 continues his release of bone-crushing beats aimed at the vibrant Los Angeles Beat scene that also includes compatriots like Flying Lotus, Glitch Mob, Daedalus, and Nosaj Thing. The nasty squelching synths that run through "Almost In Long Island" give it an acid techno vibe. Recorded live during a teaching session at Dubspot, the LA-based production school for which he's the resident Ableton Live expert, "Dub Spot Session" builds upon a driving, industrial grind to develop a strangely palatable impression of a dial-up modem as it connects. "Gravity" will remind listeners of a different piece of outdated technology - the dot matrix printer - as it glitches along ominously upon a beat that trips over itself. The flow of “MPCless” teamed with a funky bass-line compliment the female disco-esque vocals. Thavius Beck has shown once again that he is in command of a truly diverse set of production skills.
